I’m going home!

woo hoo! we’re going home this week! :D

95% of the time, we consider where we are home … it’s where our heart is and all that. But there’s a small part of us that will always have a connection to another home. Our extended families are there, some of our oldest and dearest friends are there … but one of the best parts about going home is the FOOD! Yes, that’s right. I love going home for food. Now I know what you’re thinking – you’re thinking that I want to go home for my mom’s home cooking. That’s sort of true. My hub’s grandmother makes some of the BEST fried chicken ever. With LARD. So bad for me, but so good. :)

Since the trip is short, I have some decisions to make. There are too many places I’d like to eat and just not enough time. :( Luckily, I can buy some of my favorite foods and bring them home to Smallsville to enjoy later. I’ve got it narrowed down to these places:

Unfortunately, in addition to not enough time … it’s supposed to be a million degrees on Saturday. I don’t do well eating all that food in the heat. I’m old, damn it.

In between snacking, I’ll be doing some shopping… I’m going to all the places that I’ve been shopping at for a million years. I can’t wait to hit the Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic warehouse distribution center. Must. Go. Early. The best deals are always scooped up early in the day.

Snacking, shopping, family (in that order ;) ) … pretty good reasons to get the heck out of Smallsville for a few days.

college life

my oldest DS is heading to college next month.

In preparation of his departure, I’ve been doing some shopping :)

Boy, I wish I could go back to college, or at least start over with new stuff. There’s some really cool gadgets out there! Like this alarm clock  to use with an iPod. Of course, we didn’t have ipods back in the day … I can’t even remember if I had a walkman or not. LOL And it’s funny, 20 years later, some things haven’t changed… like the need for something to carry all the crap toiletries to the shower. I always hated that. But I don’t think boys carry a tote – I’m guessing they just grab their shower gel & shampoo and go. I’ve been buying boring stuff like sheets and towels, too ;)

In the midst of all the preparation, I’ve spent a little time on memory lane. It’s hard to believe it’s been 22 years since I was getting ready for sorority rush and my first semester at Northern Kentucky University. I had no idea what was ahead of me … and how much fun I had. I’m excited for DS to have those adventures, too. People keep asking me if I’m sad that he’s leaving. And there will be a time for that. But for now, I want to enjoy this time…. for him and for me.

more Jon & Kate

I need a new obsession hobby. I’ve spent way too much time reading blogs, watching reruns, etc. It’s crazy!

I’ve come to a conclusion.

When Jon & Kate are bad, they are really bad … AWFUL. And during those times, I think their nay-sayers are onto something. But every now and then, they aren’t so bad … and are almost likeable.

They are scheduled to be in the area next year. March 2009. I’m betting it doesnt happen, now that they’re paid the big bucks and all … but, if they do come, maybe I’ll check them out.

July

I know that isn’t a popular opinion … but, I am happy to see that the month of July is coming to a close this week. It’s widely reported how people have trouble with January – winter blahs and all. January doesn’t really bother me, but I can certainly see where the grey winter days are so difficult.

I haven’t always had a problem with the month of July … it’s just been in recent years. 2004 was particularly difficult and since then, I find myself in quite a funk after the July 4 holiday. I can’t really say why it is, flashbacks to 2004, maybe? We have SO much going on from the time school is out through July 4th, and then nothing …. and then it’s time to face the fact that it will be soon be time for school to start.

I guess it doesn’t really matter why it’s so lousy, because it just is.

But I can put all that behind me now … it’s almost August. A time of new beginnings at our house. It’s sort of exciting! :)

driving myself crazy…

I’m at a lovely concert – the music of John Williams. The orchestra has played several of my favorites (although ET seems to be missing) and there are a few more left to come. The big S from Superman is on display, yet the theme from the movie isn’t listed on the program. I am driving myself CRAZY trying to come with it in my head & I can’t.

SO frustrating. LOL

I’ll figure it out when I get home.
